Wellington is not a wealthy school but has a rich philanthropic tradition at its heart, which began with its foundation as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington. Founded to educate the sons of fallen heroes, we continue this tradition today by providing increasing numbers of bursary places for qualified boys and girls, and raising the funds necessary to provide our pupils with the very best facilities.
Wellington Development constitutes an important link between the school and its friends. It was established to support the development of the school and the maintenance of its place as a pre-eminent co-educational boarding school in the 21st century.
The tasks of the Wellington Development Office are to seek:
- funds for bursaries for children who would not otherwise enjoy the means to be educated at Wellington through the Prince Albert Society
- the funding required to maintain the education of children, bereaved of a parent, under the terms of the Foundation
- long term support through Legacies
- and to manage specific appeals in pursuit of funding for needed capital improvement
