Results

The academic achievements of our Sixth Form students in 2012 were again outstanding, in both A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. These results confirm that Wellington now consistently achieves premier league academic success using a combination of innovative methods and traditional approaches.

The dramatic improvement in our academic standing over the last few years is the result of establishing self-discipline amongst pupils, putting the greatest value on effort, giving individual children support as they need it and sustaining the highest expectations. Underpinning this is a focus on well-being and our Eight Aptitudes approach which develops all the intelligences rather than just academic potential.

A Level

We are very proud of our A Level results this year, our second best ever with the A*/A grade percentage again topping 60%. As Wellington moves progressively towards a more academically selective intake for future years, we are proud of what the leavers of 2012 have achieved.

Just over 91% of candidates achieved A and B grades at A Level.

International Baccalaureate

In only our third year of results for the IB Diploma, our results were impressive – an average score of 37.7 which puts us up with the best IB schools in the world. In addition, our IB Diploma pupils had a particularly successful year with UK university admissions with 97% of UCAS applicants making their first choice offer. IB pupils were also more likely to apply for US universities.

This year, a third of pupils scored an outstanding 40 points or more and 47% achieved 38 points or more.

For the second year in a row, we had a pupil who scored a maximum of 45 points for her Diploma, a feat achieved by only one in 500 candidates on average.

This year saw our best GCSE results in history, with 78% of our grades at A and A*.

40% of all grades were an A* and 31% of candidates gained straight A/A* grades.

88% achieved five or more A or A* grades, a 10% increase on 2011.
