Bardophile

Bardophile is the 'Shakespeare Play-Reading Society'. Every June, its presidents invite 7 or 8 members of the Lower Sixth whom they think will be interested to join, and their membership lasts until the following May. We meet twice a term, of an evening, starting at 7.00, and read a play by Shakespeare. Half-way through, we have something to eat. We finish by 10.30. This outline cannot adequately describe the pleasure to be gained from the reading of great verse in good company, and it is a continuing delight to see how students come to understand that Shakespeare can actually be genuinely funny as well as powerfully moving.
