Climbing
Climbing for sport and for fun on indoor climbing walls is one of the fastest growing activities in the country at the moment and it is for anyone aged from 8 to 80! It's great fun, it's great exercise, it may even be a little scary! It is a tremendous sport which develops maturity, self-reliance, responsibility and fitness.
Wellington has its own 12 m high rock wall with more than twenty five routes of varying difficulty. There are over 300 handholds, plus many natural features, so each climber can also find their own route up the wall as their experience develops. There is also an overhang feature to really test the strength and fearlessness of any climber. All the staff involved are qualified and experienced rock climbers themselves.
At present pupils can climb on Thursdays at 4.30 pm. Boys and girls, of all ages and experience, from beginners to experts, are welcome to come down and have a go. There are also opportunities to climb during Third Form activities and in the CCF.
For the more adventurous we also take groups away - as part of the Expedition Society - to climbing venues in different parts of the country to put the skills learned on the Rock Wall into practice on the real thing.
