Art at Wellington
It’s a grand statement to suggest that the Art School at Wellington College stands as one of the finest in the country, whether measured by academic results, quality of work or placing pupils at some of the very best Art schools and universities both nationally and internationally. However, we are fiercely proud of our pupils’ achievements and can offer a wealth of specialist teaching including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, installation, photography, video and film. The Art school has six studios; there is also a separate History of Art seminar room (History of Art is taught throughout the curriculum from years 9-13).
Pupil art work is all around the school, including installations in unexpected places and there are regular art exhibitions in the V&A. We also hold regular exhibitions of high profile artists including Peter Monkman, winner of the BP Portrait award in 2009 and acclaimed international photographer Martin Parr exhibited his work at last year’s Arts Festival. The Art School attracts high profile guest speakers including OW Sir Nicholas Grimshaw CBE and Turner Prize winning artist Grayson Perry who will be giving a Master’s Lecture in February 2011. Acclaimed painter John Keane will be exhibiting his work at Wellington College in June 2011.
Student work - the movie
Throughout 2009 David Newell, artist in residence, observed Wellington life on camera. Here's his take on IB work in the art department.
The Student Gallery
Our students' work in the older year groups is of exceptional originality and quality. This section of the website showcases some of the notable pieces of painting, design, sculpture and other visual art produced by some of our students.
