Day pupils at Wellington
Under Dr Anthony Seldon's leadership, Wellington College has been experiencing unprecedented demand for places. As a result, the Governors approved an increase in day pupil provision, with a revised day fee structure, two extra houses for day pupils and new transport options. These changes mean that there is new opportunity for girl and boy day pupils to join us (at 13+ [or 14+]) for studies to GCSE and (at 16+) for either A level or International Baccalaureate programmes. Early registration is advised. If you are interested in one of these places, please see the Applying to Wellington section.
Day pupils will receive the full 'Wellington experience' in terms of intellectual, artistic, sporting, spiritual and social development.
There are two categories of day pupil at Wellington:
Day Pupils in Day Houses
- These students have a desk and a storage space in the house.
- The pastoral and academic support structure will be the equivalent of that in boarding houses and the students will have the same opportunities to represent their house and school.
- Timing of departure at the end of the school day will be flexible, by careful arrangement with the Housemaster or Housemistress. Although it is expected that pupils will leave at 6.15pm each evening (to complete all of their prep at home) there is, however, the option for an earlier leave or a later stay (i.e. until 7pm, allowing students to complete their first prep in a supervised environment, or to stay for dinner on an occasional basis, with charge).
- There will be approximately 12 pupils per year group.
Day Pupils in Boarding Houses
- Day pupils can also be members of the boarding houses.
- These students have a desk and a storage space in the house alongside boarders.
- Their pastoral care will be supervised by the Housemaster or Housemistress, assisted by his or her team of assistants and tutors, exactly as for the boarders.
- These day pupils will normally leave College at 9pm each evening, having completed their prep (or earlier by arrangement).
- There are approximately ten boarders and two day pupils per year group in each boarding house.
Very occasional (emergency) boarding arrangements may be possible for day pupils, but only if accommodation is available. No regular flexi-boarding for day pupils can be expected.
Expectation must be that no change from day to boarding status will be possible. Requests for such change can be made, and will be considered in the context of any special circumstances. Such a transfer may only become possible if a place is released by a boarding pupil and is not designated for, or not taken up by, a new pupil.
