Library and IT
The College Library is currently undergoing refurbishment. Work commenced in July 2011 and is due to be finished by Easter 2012.
The College Library was built in 1870 as one of the original buildings. It is being extended and modernised as part of a two and a half million pound project which includes the redevelopment of Princes’ Quad.
The Library provides resources suitable for all pupils and staff at the school, covering the full range of curriculum subjects and recreational reading. Resources include approximately 10,000 books (2,000 fiction) available for loan, and access to many online newspapers, magazines, books and reference works. The library catalogue is available on the school network.
The Library takes a range of national daily newspapers, the weekly local paper and it also subscribes to about 80 magazines, covering academic, sporting and leisure interests.
During the refurbishment, the Library is housed in Old Hall which has good wireless access to the school network for pupils using their own laptops. Several desktop PCs and printing, scanning and photocopying facilities are provided for pupils. Amazon’s Kindle, the Sony e Reader and the iPad are currently being trialled in the Library.
The Library is staffed by two qualified librarians whose contact email address is librarian@wellingtoncollege.org.uk
Information Technology
Under a new five-year development plan, Wellington has made significant investments in IT hardware, software and networking facilities to strengthening our excellent IT support for academic learning and school administration.
Every classroom has a data-projector and associated audio-visual equipment. Half of the classrooms also have interactive whiteboards, and we aim to install more each year. The school's extensive network infrastructure links almost every building, including all Houses and staff houses, and over 1,000 PCs and laptops owned either by the school or by pupils. The highest levels of security and controlled internet access are implemented throughout the system.
There has been substantial investment in an impressive staff IT training suite, and there is a rolling programme in place to ensure that all staff are taught the up-to-date IT skills.
