Cross Country pre-season training camp on the island of Lanzarote
After a very successful Cross Country season in 2006, Wellington College's running squad embarked on a pioneering pre-season training camp on the island of Lanzarote at the end of the Michaelmas Term 2006.
The world famous Club La Santa played to host to Wellington's top 12 athletes. The squad took part in a wide range of activities that strengthened different areas of their overall fitness. Days started with a 5km run along the shore, followed by a fitness session such as body toning or 'fitball'. These focused on the muscle groups that had not been worked on in the runs.
The afternoon saw track sessions, hill runs, swims or bike rides. The highlight however must have been the seven pupils, plus Mr Edwards, who completed a half marathon over what was a mentally and physically challenging course. First runner to finish was Captain of Cross Country, Jack Spencer, in an impressive time of 1:32.
All the pupils showed tremendous spirit and determination all week; and hopefully this will ensure a successful season in 2007.
