An Evening With Sir John Clifford Mortimer CBE QC
On Wednesday 1st November in the Driver Lecture Rooms, many parents and a few pupils were honoured with the presence of Sir John Mortimer for an hour. Mortimer is probably best publicly known for the creation of Horace Rumpole for "Rumpole of the Bailey", which has been developed for a television series, and is also a series of books.
The hour went quickly, but a huge insight into so many things was given by a genius of our time. The time was filled with anecdotes from mainly the best part of the last century, of an intensely funny nature. Surely spending an hour with a very intelligent but also an amazingly funny man beats a dull hour of prep? And how often is it that we are able to learn from a man who has worked and written for such people as the great Laurence Olivier?
