Camerata - the National Music for Youth Festival
On 12th July, Camerata performed in Birmingham in Symphony Hall, representing Wellington College in the National Music for Youth Festival. Following a fantastic, fresh and uninhibited performance in one of the best concert halls in Europe, Camerata was awarded the 'Highly Commended Performance' Award, the runner-up award at the national level in their category, String and Chamber Orchestras (schools).
The players are:
Ramona Racovicean, Amy Tress, Tom Lowe, Sally Dempster, James Lyne, Oliver Bagwell-Purefoy, Hugh Hemsley, Nick Jupp, Florence Michel, and Jonathan Keeling.
They played wonderfully and made a strong impression on the panel of adjudicators. As far as I am aware (and I am willing to stand corrected), this is the first time Wellington College has participated in the Music for Youth Festival and, for a first timer, reaching the Nationals and achieving the second place as runner-up in our category in the country with the 'Highly Commended Performance' Award, I think is a fantastic start!
Also, I would like to express my sincere and wholehearted thanks to all the parents and friends who have supported us throughout this quest, including coming all the way to Birmingham, and I know that without their generous help this would not have been possible. I can just say that they can be as proud as I am of the Camerata's achievements for this year.
