Nicholas Cho wins his age group in the TFL competition
The Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) ran a design competition for a new Routemaster. Nick was one of 700 entrants to the competitition, which spans professional designers and gifted pupils covering a number of age groups. The competition was split into in two categories: "Design" for the professionals and "Imagine" for the not-so-professionals. The former was jointly won by Capoco Design Ltd and a venture between Fosters and Partners, the architects, and Aston Martin. In the latter, Nicholas came first in his group.
The results were announced on 19 December in an award ceremony in London before the press (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/corporate/projectsandschemes/technologyandequipment/anewbusforlondon/default.aspx).
Peter Hendy, Transport Commissioner, said in the ceremony that ".... the sheer scale of the response to this competition clearly shows how much it caught the imagination of Londoners and others worldwide. We now have a wealth of fantastic ideas to present to the bus manufacturers who will create the final design.... due to hit the streets in 2011."
TFL are showcasing the designs, starting in Covent Garden on 14 February (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/corporate/projectsandschemes/technologyandequipment/anewbusforlondon/next-steps.aspx). Nick's work will be on display and Wewllingtonians are encouraged to pop in and see what he has been up to.
