Scottish Rugby Cap for Thom Evans O.W.
Congratulations must go to Wellingtonian Thom Evans, Hardinge '98 / '03, who has been selected to play on the wing for Scotland in this Saturday's international against Argentina in Rosario. This is Thom's first international cap. Thom played for two years in Wellington's 1st XV and he currently plays for Glasgow Warriors.
His selection gives Wellington its second full international cap in two years after James Haskell's selection for England.
Scotland's head coach Frank Hadden said "I've been discussing this selection on and off for the best part of two months with Sean Lineen, Andy Robinson and Alan Tait". As a result of these discussions 23 year old Thom Evans will debut on the wing for Scotland this Saturday. Frank Hadden is quoted as saying "I spoke to Thom before the World Cup and told him that his whole season should be geared to getting on the plane to Argentina. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity as he's a very exciting talent.
This caps (apologies!) a real family strength in the sport. His brother Max (OW) has recently played for Scotland A and Scotland 7s whilst cousin Kai Horstmann (OW) is currently playing for Worcester Warriors and has played for England Saxons (England A).
