Wellington College’s spectacular-sell-out-fireworks-to-music charity extravaganza once again delivered a show to delight and amaze.

The event was held in aid of local, national and international charities, with all profits raised being divided between the chosen organisations. This year’s charities were local Berkshire charity, Sport in Mind, the JBVC Foundation and Remembering Srebrenica.

Wellington’s Firework Spectacular is renowned locally for the quality of its display and for its grand bonfire. Once again street entertainers delighted guests with their interactive performances and, as the countdown to the fireworks began, revellers enjoyed a profusion of food and drink stalls, sweet treats, glow-sticks, music, and face painting.

As well as being a brilliant way of bringing the wider Wellington community together, the event has raised a considerable sum for our chosen charities. We would like to thank our fantastic supporters, without whom this event would not be possible: Hodges Coaches, Visions Live Events, Meridian Marquees, ITQ, Office Gold, Interform Contract Furniture, and Prestige Cars.

College Events Manager, Zoe Short, commented: ‘We would like to thank members of the local community for their continued support of this charity event. The Fireworks Spectacular is a fantastic opportunity for the College to welcome those from the village and beyond and to share a magical evening with friends and family.’

Ahead of the evening’s proceedings, we were delighted to welcome a team from Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue who used thermal imaging cameras to look for hedgehogs in the unlit bonfire. This continues the work of our Head Gardener, Mark Dodd, who has been training groups of ‘Hedgehog Champions’ as part of the Global Citizenship programme. In their efforts to conserve this endangered species, Wellington students have built some palatial pads for hedgehogs on the campus. Saturday’s bonfire and fireworks display were all the more enjoyable, knowing that no hedgehogs were harmed in the process.
