The Week ahead
Monday 6th November until Sunday 12th November
General Events
On Tuesday 7th November there is a conference being held at Wellington entitled "US University Admissions: Strategies for UK Students." The Dean of Admissions, Princeton and President of the Summer Institute for the Gifted will be speaking to the students about opportunities in the US and bursary schemes from 5:30 p.m after the conference. If any parent is interested in attending the conference which starts at 2:00 p.m. they should contact Tarla Woolhouse for more details.
Unfortunately, owing to the fact that we did not get enough support to enable us to continue with the WCA "Eating Around the Globe" event on Friday 10th November, we have had to cancel it. Thank you to those parents who did send off for their tickets in support of the event but sadly we needed more people for the event to go ahead. All payments will,of course, be returned in full.
With a full programme of activities on the evening of Saturday 11th November, parents are reminded that there are no Leave Outs on Saturday night.
On Sunday 12th November, we look forward to welcoming one of our governors, Rear Admiral Hugh Edleston (who, amongst other theatres of service, was involved in the Falklands conflict), to address the College on Remembrance Sunday. It is always one of the most moving and thought-provoking days in the life of the school. The collection for that week will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Whilst there is no space in the Chapel for that service, parents are welcome to attend the wreath-laying ceremony in Front Quad that start at 10:50 p.m. although even here space is somewhat limited.
Also on Sunday 12th November at 8:00 p.m. there will be a special concert in Great School for Remembrance Sunday featuring music from the Chapel Choir, solo vocal items and readings. We hope that many of you will be able to join us on this occasion.
Thanks for the many offers of support we had for the Young Enterprise and we are pleased to see that all the pupils are now catered for.
House photographs are now available to buy online. Indeed they can only be purchased this way. Click here for the site. You must then click the word HERE in the red box. For all Houses other than the Combermere and the Hardinge, the username is R6827D and the password is WHEOLU. For the Combermere and the Hardinge, the username is RG8272D and the password is WHEOLU2. There did seem to be a problem with the Hardinge and Combermere passwords but that should now be resolved. If there is a problem please contact Noel Brett, who organises the photographs. This paragraph will disappear next newsletter.

A busy sporting week starts on Monday 6th November when captain Anna Abbott hopes to take the girls to glory in the U18 county hockey finals to be held at Leighton Park. Not to be outdone by the U18 girls' hockey team, the U14 team have also fought through to the finals of their Berkshire competition on Thursday 9th November. The competition starts at 3:40 p.m. at Leighton Park. Also on this day our rugby teams play in the fourth round of the Daily Mail competition with the 1st XV playing Pangbourne on Bigside 1 and the U15 side playing Claire's Court on Derby.
