WCA
Wellington is one of the most dynamic institutions you're ever likely to be part of, and parents are very much a part of it. The WCA is officially Wellington's Parent Association; it's where parents, often accompanied by grandparents, godparents, aunts and uncles, come together with staff, O.W.s and other friends of the College to take advantage of the magnificent school facilities. The Wellington experience isn't just for the pupils and we look forward to getting to know you soon!
Denise Cook, Head of WCA
We have two main aims:
The first is to organise a number of events which make full use of the College's educational and cultural facilities. These include talks by visiting speakers and the Master's Lecture series: highlights have included visits by Yasmin Alibhai Brown, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and OW Sebastian Faulks. We have also hosted talks by Boris Johnson and Harvard university's Professor Howard Gardner, the author of 'Five Minds of the Future', as well as insights from expert members of the Wellington Community such as talks on the Health Service by Lord Darzi, a Wellington parent.
Secondly, we want to give parents opportunities to meet each other and members of the staff in a relaxed atmosphere at a number of formal and informal social occasions ranging from concerts such as that on the Eve of Speech Day, to special interest walks. We also take trips overseas to places of interest such as the battlefields of the first world war and Waterloo and Rome, in Europe, and further afield to St Petersburg, with trips planned for Arnhem and Berlin over the coming mionths.
Advance notice and details of how to sign up for Wellington based events, as well as external events and trips, can be found in The List, a hard copy version of which is distributed by post in January and July. Regular updates can be seen in the What's new section
We look forward to seeing you soon: whatever WCA events you decide to attend, you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
The WCA Committee and House Reps
WCA has been building a network of parent representatives across every year group and through every boarding house, so that every current parent has a readily accessible point of contact. At the centre of this network is the WCA Committee, a group of enthusiastic and committed individuals who help the Chairman with the day to day running of the Association. The Committee meets once each term and consists of parents from different year groups and representatives from the College and OWs. Committee members and parent reps can be spotted at College events; you will know them by their lapel badges!
