Book Club Reports, Reviews and Recommended
The books below were chosen by the WCA Reading group in our January 2011 meeting, for discussion in our meetings once every half term. We had many more books than we could cover in the 6 meetings, so we have also compiled a recommended reading list for general interest and enjoyment, including some ‘inheritance reads’: books that made a significant impact on us as young readers.
In 2011 we will be reading:
The Help Kathryn Stockett: Tuesday 15th March
The Slap Christos Tsailkos: Tuesday 24th May
Auntie Mame Patrick Dennis: Summer term, second half, date tbc
Room Emma Donoghue: Michaelmas term, first half, date tbc
Notes from an Exhibition Patrick Gale: Michaelmas term, second half, date tbc
We also recommend:
The Island Victoria Hislop
Just Kids Patti Smith
Letters to Monica Philip Larkin
Angela’s Ashes Frank McCourt
The Sum of our Days Isabel Allende
Out of Shadows Jason Wallace
The Shadow of the Wind Carlos Ruis Zafon
Music and Silence Rose Tremain
Enduring Love Ian McKewan
The Outcast Sadie Jones
High Rise J G Ballard
Small Island Andrea Levy
Some ‘Inheritance’ Reads:
The Seven Pillars of Wisdom T E Lawrence
In Patagonia Bruce Chatwin
The Picture of Dorian Grey Oscar Wilde
