Chess Team 4th in UK

The 2015/6 season has been quite something for the Wellington College chess team. Not only did they win the Surrey and Hampshire Adult Division 1 chess league (the first school or university team ever to do so) but Vladimir Minko (Hg) was also awarded player of the tournament having outscored every single adult Grandmaster in the league — quite an achievement for a Lower Sixth pupil. The team also qualified for the National Schools Final, finishing 4th out of the 12 schools that qualified after a narrow loss to the eventual winners in the closest game of the tournament. Vladimir finished the season with a 100% win record against both clubs and schools and is the first pupil at Wellington College to achieve International Master Status.
