When art became for art’s sake and the Emperor’s new clothes.
We are reminded these days of the impact on culture of events beyond our control. In this lecture, Nick Ross will look at an elusive period called Mannerism – a time when court life, sophisticated diplomacy and ‘branding’ took shape. For fun, Nick will also look at events surrounding Canova’s depiction of Napoleon as Mars.
