Set in 1984 in Country Durham during a time of intense political violence. Coal miners were striking against Margaret Thatcher’s government plans to close the coal pits. This would result in thousands of men losing their jobs unable to support their families. Thatcher’s plans would cause redundancies, so fathers and young men stood together to riot against the government in a rampage of anger. This play follows the story of 4 teenagers Molly Fletcher, Callum Walker, Dougie Armstrong and Pippa Lumley and their complex relationships with each other as the tensions of their hometown rise. With their relationships strained with parents due to their community being impacted by the death of Molly’s Father, with no stability in their lives they get caught up in the riots, which inevitably doesn’t end well for them.
