On Friday 6th October pupil leaders from schools across the country gathered at Wellington College to embark on a day of leadership discussion and development. It was without doubt a fantastic opportunity to share ideas about what makes an effective leader and the potential challenges faced when in a position of responsibility.
The morning included talks from the Master, Mr Julian Thomas, and from Fionnuala Kennedy on the power of public speaking, both of which included valuable and inspiring leadership lessons.
In the afternoon, each group engaged in discussion centered around the importance of communication within our respective schools. Delegates then considered a specific scenario and discussed the best approach to it, before presenting ideas to everyone else. Each group then came up with their own leadership vision, allowing pupil leaders to collate the ideas which had been picked up on.
All in all, it was a memorable day that made everyone who attended think more thoroughly about the skills that make a good leader and how pupil leaders can use and implement those skills in their own leadership positions.
