April 23 marked Wellington College’s first ever Street Crew battle on South Front to a huge crowd of intrigued and excited students. The idea was conceived after an inspiring House Dance event back in October 2021. Seeing so many girls and boys thriving and challenging themselves with popular dance in a hip hop, street or commercial style, it was clear there was a desire and the skill for more.
Anoushka H and Cindy G stepped up to lead the task, with a team of friends and peers by their sides, they set to work creating and rehearsing. Despite a few setbacks, date changes and COVID absences, they demonstrated perseverance, creativity, confidence, flair, musicality and an awesome team vibe that radiated out to audiences around, culminating in a wonderful Lent term outdoor event that could be a new highlight of the school calendar.
So while only one team could be crowned winners this time, it was a brilliant display of what pupils can do when they put their mind to it. We can’t wait to see what next year’s battle brings.
