Many congratulations to the girls of the U16A and U15C hockey teams and the boys of the U15A and U14A rugby teams who have all managed to pull of the remarkable feat of an unbeaten season in school fixtures this term.

The U16A girls have been all-conquering in the outdoor season scoring 41 goals and conceding only 4. In November they also qualified, for the first time in the College’s history, for the National U16 Finals Day in March, following wins against Epsom (3-2) and Reigate (3-0) in the Regionals.  We wish them every success in their bid for the national title.  The U15C team has, arguably, had the most amazing season of any girls’ side in the College. With many of the U15A side playing up in the 1st XI or for clubs on Saturday afternoons, many girls have consequently moved up from the B and C teams.  Despite losing players, the U15C team managed to retain an unbeaten record, scoring 60 goals throughout the term, including a 6-0 victory over Pangbourne’s U16B side and a remarkable 3-3 draw against a Sixth Form U18D side from St Mary’s Ascot.  It was, quite simply, an wonderful effort from a wonderful bunch of girls.

Also of note has been the performance of the U14A girls hockey side who won the Independent Schools Hockey League for the South region. Going into the final game of the season against an unbeaten Marlborough College team, the girls knew that a victory would secure the title and a resilient and gutsy 2-1 score-line was enough to ensure that the trophy stayed with Wellington College for a third successive year.

On the boys’ side of things, the U15A rugby team has won a remarkable 18 games since September and are making fine progress in the Natwest Cup – the national schools’ competition for this age-group – where they have progressed to Round 5.  Scoring nearly 700 points and conceding only 101, they have notched up particularly strong wins against Dulwich (57-7), Tonbridge (34-5) Whitgift (46-7), Millfield (27-12), Eton (40-3), Harrow (41-5) and Sedbergh (27-3).  Not to be outdone, Wellington’s newest recruits in the U14A side have also achieved a perfect season winning 14 out of 14 games with some hard fought victories against Hampton (15-7) and Cranleigh (10-7).

Well done to all the girls and boys involved!
