The National U16 Girls hockey side have retained their Outdoor title after two days of tough hockey in very hot conditions at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

The girls beat The Leys 3-0 and Canford 7-2 on day one which meant they had one foot in the final. Their final pool game was against Trent on the second morning and ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning the girls would either play St Georges or Repton in the final. Repton beat St George’s 2-1 meaning Wellington would face Repton in a repeat of last year’s final.

At full time, honours were even at 1-1 which meant the 2018 title would be decided on penalty strokes. Thanks to outstanding saves by Raph Robeson (W) and cool finishing under pressure from Darcy Bourne (C), Emily Leeson (A) and Emily Guckian (Hn) Wellington won 3-1 on penalty strokes.

This means the girls won the double (U16 Indoor and Outdoor National Champions) for the first time in the College’s history.

This is an incredible achievement and all the students involved should feel extremely proud.
