Wellington College has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Education Choice Awards

Wellington College has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Education Choice Awards: Developing Student Voice and Supporting Sustainability. 

The Education Choice Awards are independent awards that celebrate excellence and innovation across the education sector. Both nominations recognise the impact of student leadership, collaboration and community engagement in driving positive change across the College.   

The nomination for Developing Student Voice recognises the impact of WellySpeaks, the College’s student-led council, which gives pupils a meaningful role in shaping school life. Through initiatives ranging from wellbeing festivals and transition support to anti-bullying campaigns and improvements to the everyday student experience, WellySpeaks helps ensure that student perspectives are embedded in decision-making across the College. 

The Supporting Sustainability shortlisting reflects Wellington’s whole-school approach to environmental responsibility. Guided by a commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, sustainability is increasingly embedded across College life through climate education, student-led environmental initiatives, conservation projects, renewable energy investment and partnerships that support meaningful environmental action. 

Students contribute hundreds of hours each year to conservation and biodiversity projects, while sustainability is integrated into both the curriculum and co-curricular programme. The College also works closely with catering partner Sodexo to reduce food waste and encourage sustainable practices through initiatives that engage students directly in understanding the environmental impact of their choices. 

Commenting on the shortlisting, Nick Hughan and Katie Johnston, who lead WellySpeaks, said

Both nominations reflect the commitment of our students and staff to creating a community where young people are empowered to contribute, lead and make a positive difference. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved through WellySpeaks and our sustainability initiatives, and grateful to everyone who has played a part in these successes.” 

We are proud to have been recognised as finalists in both categories and congratulate all schools shortlisted this year. The winners will be announced on 12th June and we wish all finalists the very best of luck.
