Ivy League & US universities

The past decade has witnessed a significant increase in the number of Wellingtonians moving on to university in the US, attracted by outstanding levels of tuition, superb facilities, generous scholarships and the breadth of the courses available.

The nationwide trend which has seen an increasing number of UK school leavers explore the possibility of further education in the US has certainly been evident at Wellington over the past decade and, on average, 15-20 Wellingtonians move on to universities and colleges on the other side of the Atlantic every year.

In order to best prepare our pupils for the possibility of further education in the US, the College has worked tirelessly to put in place a support structure unrivalled in UK schools.  Every year in the October half term pupils have the opportunity to spend a week in the US on an intense programme of college visits, alternating from West to East Coast.  This trip is organised by our specialist US universities adviser who also spends one day per week at the College.  Any Wellingtonian who is thinking about applying to US institutions therefore has a weekly opportunity to discuss any aspect of the process from SAT and ACT preparation to scholarships which might be available.  Just as importantly, Wellington runs an annual SAT and ACT preparation course to equip potential candidates with all the skills and support they might need for this element of the process.  In addition, the College is now a registered SAT and ACT testing centre which means that our pupils can complete every single aspect of the application procedure without ever leaving Wellington.

US universities at which Wellingtonians have been offered places in recent years include: Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Georgetown, Juilliard, McGill, Notre Dame, NYU, Rhode Island School of Design, Tufts, and UCLA amongst many others.  With such a strong track-record of success, any Wellingtonians contemplating university in America can be sure that they will receive unparalleled support, preparation and advice.
