This year’s House Dance explored themes around Iconic Literary Characters, with every house interpreting their own character, from Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) to Willy Wonka, Hamlet, Peter Pan, Scarlett O’Hara and more.

Caroline Kenworthy, Head of Dance at Wellington, commented:
“We were blown away by the incredible standard this year, with every house filling the stage with up to 70 dancers, showcasing so much teamwork, acrobatic skill, musicality, and clever formations.”

It was the first year we had a wildcard vote for the last spot in the final, which was narrowly won by The Hill, earning them a place in the grand final.

The prizes awarded were a close call, but in the small group dances, runners-up were Elizabeth and Talbot with brilliant responses to Matilda and Alice in Wonderland. However, Hardinge won the judges’ award with their sassy, candy cane–filled Willy Wonka small group performance.

A special prize for the most entertaining group went to a sparkly interpretation of Hamlet, brilliantly portrayed by The Picton.

Finally, for the large group dance, Apsley and Combermere secured brilliant 3rd and 2nd places with a Gatsby extravaganza and a powerful Scarlett O’Hara performance. However, it was Benson’s clever interpretation of Sherlock Holmes that earned them the winning trophy — full of lifts, acrobatics, brilliant timing and plenty of fun elements.

The GWA was filled with positivity, another brilliant whole-school Just Dance and an evening never to be forgotten.
