Wellington College sent a number of talented teams to Cheltenham College on 27 November to debate in both French and Spanish.
The Spanish trio comprised of Lyra FC, Pippo H and Jamie G battled admirably against tough Y13 opposition on themes of La Siesta, La Tauromaquia y El Derecho al Sufragio, picking up full marks against Abingdon only to eventually draw the debate! The French L6th teams of Annie G, Clara M and Ella R were also excellent and rose to the challenge, debating successfully on themes of ChatGPT et Les Influenceurs. They can be very proud of their efforts. More to come from them next year!
The standout moment of the day came from the French duo Joelle M and Laryah J, who truly stole the show. They navigated both prepared and unseen motions through the later rounds, ultimately overcoming a strong CLC pair in a thrilling final before an inspired crowd. Their composure under pressure, especially in the closing debate, was remarkable—a genuine pleasure to witness.

Every pupil was exceptional, engaging company throughout the day and a real credit to the College and to their teachers and a huge thank you to Katel and Sophie for their support and superb preparation of the pupils. Their guidance was evident in every round.
