Polo at Wellington

Mariano Darritchon is a highly regarded Argentine polo professional whose expertise spans competitive polo, horse breeding, player development and polo management. Widely respected in both Argentina and the United Kingdom, Mariano has built a reputation for producing quality polo ponies, developing young talent and fostering strong polo programmes both on and off the field.

Alongside his long-standing association with the renowned La Mariposa organisation, Mariano has become a key figure in the development of winter arena polo in the UK through his work at Emsworth Polo. Since joining the Wellington programme, he has played an instrumental role in creating opportunities for young players to compete and progress throughout the winter season.

For the 2025–26 season, Mariano helped establish the Winter Schools Championship, a competitive series that brings together many of the country’s leading polo schools and colleges. Hosted at Emsworth Polo and Oxford Polo, the championship provides a valuable pathway for developing players and further strengthens the growing schools polo calendar.

Andrew Hine has enjoyed a distinguished professional polo career spanning more than 20 years, competing in 17 countries around the world. Having played at the highest levels of the sport, Andrew captained the England team from 1999 to 2003 before going on to serve as England Team Manager.

A highly respected coach, mentor and strategist, Andrew has remained actively involved in High Goal polo, working with some of the sport’s most successful organisations. His coaching and management experience includes working with the twice British Open-winning team Zacara, as well as leading international teams and organisations such as Thai Polo, Enigma, Cadenza and Caballus. His wealth of experience and deep understanding of the game continue to make him one of the most influential figures in British polo.
