Training takes place intermittently during the Michaelmas Term at Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre with our impulse race coaches.
Each December, we take a mixed team to participate in the Canada Cup in Jasper, Alberta. This serves as an excellent training event and is suitable for both experienced and novice skiers. In January, we attend the British Schoolgirls races in Flaine and the British Schoolboys races in Wengen.
We are flexible with this running alongside other sports, and pupils can sign up for whichever sessions they wish to attend. Pupils involved in the races will be expected to attend as many Hemel Hempstead sessions as possible, particularly in the run-up to their events. The College provides transport, but there is an additional charge to cover the cost of facilities and external coaching.

Simon Kirkham
Mr Kirkham is an enthusiastic all-round sportsman, with coaching experience in and out of College in tennis, hockey, football and karate. He has significant experience leading residential trips, including overseas visits and adventure training camps with the CCF, and is a fluent German and French speaker.
Anna Williams
I have been skiing for 20 years and ran the ‘snow society’ when completing my Undergraduate Degree at Roehampton University, London. Since then, I have become more of a cautious skier – technically good and certainly parallel; however, the ski team finds it amusing that I have twin tips (as I was once quite the adventurous off-pister). I have skied some wonderful resorts across Europe and Canada, but I have a soft spot for Wengen and Tignes. I am determined to ski in Whistler – I visited during summer, so I can claim to have ziplined over the slopes, but I would like to take a more ‘on mountain/snow’ approach.
What you need
Essential Kit:
For Hemel Hempstead sessions, pupils will need to bring warm gloves and wear long sleeves, suitable bottoms and ski socks. Pupils are welcome to bring their own ski boots, skis and poles to the training sessions but also have the option of hiring equipment when there.
For specific ski racing trips, a kit list will be sent to attendees along with trip information.
