Why we love life in the Sixth Form at Wellington!

We love the wide choice of subjects: whether it’s Double Maths, Physics and Chemistry, or Latin, Greek, Mandarin and German, or History, Geography, Politics and Economics, or English Literature, Philosophy, Psychology and Business Studies you’re sure to find the right subjects for you*. And the fact that you also have the choice to study IB or A-levels means that there’ll be a tailor-made combination just for you.

We also love the advice we get for our academic life beyond Wellington: a team of Oxbridge and Ivy League specialists ensure that we get the very best University guidance, and with the school’s academic results placing us so high in National and International League Tables, we know that we are in the best place to help us turn our dreams into reality. This Autumn (2024) the school is opening a brand new Sixth Form centre that will allow us space to socialise, to study quietly, and to access professional university and careers consultants.

On the theme of socialising, while House Life will always be at the centre of a student’s experience of Wellington, the newly refurbished and enlarged V&A café (think Costa, Pret or Starbucks only bigger and better) gives us a real sense of University life while at school. It’s just by our brilliant Library too, with its individual study pods and fantastic team of helpful librarians, so if you fancy a quick break from your books then a chilled Late is no sooner imagined than enjoyed. Its awesome in the summer months too, with bean bags and benches adding to the campus atmosphere.

But Wellington’s so much more than just a theatre of academic dreams. The sport here is amazing, and whether you are an aspirational athlete on course for a professional career, or simply want to take part, there’ll be something for you – with x sports on offer, and the very best coaches, pitches and facilities right on your doorstep how couldn’t there be? But if Music and the performing arts are your thing then look no further: we doubt there’s a better school theatre in the world than the GWA; not many students get the chance to perform concertos backed by whole orchestra, or star in West End quality shows – but at Wellington they do.

One of the greatest things about Sixth Form life here are the enrichment and leadership opportunities: with over x co-curricular activities ranging from WTV and Dukebox (our own TV and Radio station), through to Medical, MUN and Debating societies you’re guaranteed to be more busily and proactively involved than ever before. Hey, you could even design and drive a Green Power formula racing car – and if there’s a society you fancy that doesn’t exist, we’ll help you start and run one!

We promise you that you will feel like a true Wellingtonian right from the start, so whether you joined Wellington in Year 9, Year 10 or Year 12 we know that you’ll not only love it here, but be a vital part of the school’s history – and its future. It really is one of, if not the, most inclusive and diverse schools in the UK (the safeguarding and inclusion provision is off the scale, just in case you wondered).

These are just some of the reasons why we love the Sixth Form at Wellington – and we know you’re going to love it too!
