Academic Colours

We were delighted to celebrate 48 pupils who have been awarded Academic Colours following their outstanding GCSE results. To receive Academic Colours, pupils must achieve at least eight grade 9s and an average grade of 8.7 or above, an exceptional achievement reflecting their hard work, commitment and academic excellence.

The award not only celebrates what they have already accomplished, but also opens the door to further intellectual challenge. Recipients are invited to join Wellington’s Academic Scholars Programme, taking part in a series of interdisciplinary seminars exploring what it means to be human in the age of AI.

Throughout the programme, pupils will approach this question from strikingly different perspectives: the environmental and economic consequences of rapid technological change; whether instant AI translation changes the value of learning another language; how pain is shaped by biology, memory, emotion and social attitudes; and the role of memory in shaping identity, place and community.

It offers a chance to build on their GCSE success by thinking ambitiously, making connections across disciplines and engaging with some of the most important questions of our time.

At the end of the term, recipients who are not currently Academic Scholars will also be able to apply for an Honorary Academic Scholarship, recognising exceptional curiosity, engagement and independence of thought.
