Arthur M enjoyed a breakthrough summer as an athlete, supported by British Athletics’ Paralympic Futures Programme. Competing in the T13 category, which is designated for track athletes with visual impairments, Arthur’s season was filled with standout performances and unforgettable experiences.
At the Microplus UK Athletics Championships in Manchester this June, Arthur achieved a PB in the 1500m Ambulant race. He followed this up with the highlight of his season at the London Athletics Meet, part of the Diamond League series held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. In this prestigious event, Arthur set another PB with an impressive time of 4:04.73 in a race won by Ben Sandilands, the T20 1500m World Champion, who later went on to claim the Paralympic Gold in Paris and break the World Record.
Arthur also had the opportunity to rub shoulders with elite athletes such as Phoebe Gill and Neil Gorley at major events in Manchester and London. He even met athletics legends Linford Christie and Darren Campbell, further adding to the thrill of his summer season.
In August, Arthur received an unexpected call, informing him that he was the third-place reserve for the Paris Paralympics. While he did not receive a final call-up, the recognition and being part of the conversation were a huge boost, inspiring his focus on training for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
In addition to his success in the 1500m, Arthur ran an 800m PB, competed at the U20 International and England Age Group Combined Events Championships, where he proudly wore his first England kit, and participated in the School Games at Loughborough University. This season marks a major milestone in Arthur’s journey, and his future looks brighter than ever.
