The Montgomery Ensemble Competition returned earlier this term with a showcase of outstanding chamber music in the Old Gym. With adjudication provided by the award-winning Atéa Quintet, pupils presented a varied and polished programme demonstrating musical sensitivity and impressive collaborative skill.
Throughout the evening, the adjudicators’ comments praised ensembles for their “beautiful sound”, “stylish playing”, “excellent communication” and “thoughtful ensemble awareness”.
Winners: Beethoven Trio
The Beethoven Trio, Stephanie O, Elena T and Audrianna L, delivered a performance of remarkable subtlety, command and ensemble unity. Adjudicators wrote:
“This was really fine musicianship on display here. Beautifully phrased and presented from start to finish.
It really shows you have taken the time to refine all aspects of performance, from the bow to communication.”
