Congratulations to all the students who performed in Friday night’s Choral & Concerto Concert, an inspiring and uplifting celebration of music at Wellington College. The evening once again showcased the wonderful collaboration between Wellington College and the Crowthorne Choral Society, a partnership that has flourished for nearly 60 years. Founded in 1967 by Jared Armstrong to connect the College with the Crowthorne community through choral music, the Society has remained closely intertwined with Wellington ever since, with every Musical Director also serving as the College’s Director of Music. This year’s concert was dedicated to Jared, who passed away in April just shy of his 99th birthday, a fitting tribute to someone who would have been deeply proud to witness so many musicians united on stage.

A special commendation must go to Marcus Y and Stephanie O, who delivered outstanding solo performances, each demonstrating extraordinary musicianship and command of their respective concertos. Stephanie’s interpretation of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1 and Marcus’s assured performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 were true highlights of the evening, earning warm and well-deserved applause from the audience.

We also extend our sincere thanks to professional soloists Lara Rebekah Harvey and Thomas Humphreys, whose exceptional contributions to the Vaughan Williams and Duruflé works added depth, richness and artistry to the programme. Their performances brought an inspiring level of professionalism and musical sensitivity to the evening.

This was an inspiring showcase of the depth and quality of music-making at Wellington College, an evening that will be remembered with pride.
