It’s been an absolute joy to witness so much cricket being played on Turf over the past couple of weeks. One of the highlights has been seeing the ground filled with young players during our two coed prep school tournaments.

Head of Cricket Thea Brookes commented: “It has been extremely fun to host a number of schools over the two days of Prep School Festivals here at Wellington. It is great to see many young aspiring cricketers come together and compete in our U11s competition. The teams are a mix of boys and girls, showcasing their skills on turf and having the opportunity to work with some of our professional coaches in a skills masterclass.

As the number of girls playing cricket has increased, we are looking to hold two festivals next year, one for girls and one for boys. Although the mixed competitions are very successful and challenge players, we have reached an era in cricket where we can host festivals specifically for both boys and girls, which will be outstanding.

The future of cricket certainly looks bright, and we eagerly look forward to seeing these young players continue to develop their talents on Turf in the years to come.
