Wellington College is proud to celebrate exceptional hockey success beyond the school gates, as both Georgia H and our very own Mr Farrington lifted Premier Division titles at the pinnacle of domestic hockey last weekend.

Despite being just 16 years old, Georgia H featured prominently for Reading HC Women’s 1st XI, who were crowned Premier Division champions following a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Surbiton in Sunday’s final.

Reading qualified for Finals Weekend off the back of a strong finish to Phase 3 of the Premier Division season. In their semi-final, they faced Hampstead & Westminster – the side who topped the regular season standings. A tense encounter finished 1–1 after normal time, sending the tie to a shoot-out. With goalkeeper Nikki Cochrane outstanding between the posts, Reading held their nerve to secure a 2–0 win and progress to the final.

There they met a Surbiton team who had already seen their men’s side lift the national title earlier in the day. In a closely contested match, it was a brilliant finish from Kiwi international Emma Findlay that proved decisive.

The final also saw a notable Wellington College match-up, as Georgia lined up against Old Wellingtonian and England international Darcy Bourne, adding further significance to the occasion.

Reading’s victory marks their first women’s Premier Division title since 2013 and sees them qualify for European competition next season.

Earlier in the day, Mr Farrington, Wellington’s Head of Hockey, played a key role in Surbiton Men’s 1st XI’s title-winning performance. Surbiton edged past Old Georgians in a thrilling final, sealing a 2–1 win to claim the men’s Premier Division crown.

We are immensely proud of Georgia, Mr Farrington, and Darcy for their incredible achievements on the national stage. To see current and former members of the Wellington community competing—and succeeding—at the very highest level is truly inspiring. We’ll be cheering them on with pride as they take on the next challenge in European competition next season!
