Congratulations to Momo X who has won a whole host of international awards for his ground-breaking photography. Momo first became fascinated by insects when he was only five years old, and much to his parents initial dismay frequently collected all manner of bugs and beetles which he brought home to raise and study. As he grew older he developed an interest in photography, and on discovering the art of ‘Ultra-Macro photography’ when he was 13 began to record and explore the intricacies of the insect world. At 15 he became the youngest Chinese photographer to be featured in the National Geographic and two years later published his astonishing book, The Art of Small. Half art, half scientific study, The Art of Small pushes back the boundaries and lets us explore the hidden beauty of the world.
Momo, who joined Wellington at the start of the Lower Sixth is studying for the IB Diploma. He has been most generous with his time and expertise since arriving at the College, delivering lectures and presentations to the Biology Society and serving on the International Student Committee, where his artistic talents have been of particular value in designing promotional material. Momo is also an accomplished Pianist, and hopes to continue his education in the United States, where he will study Music and Biology at John Hopkins University.
We wish him all the best as he sits his final exams, and feel sure we will be hearing plenty more as he discovers yet more of the natural world’s hidden gems.
