We were delighted to welcome Ralph Salmins back to Wellington College last week for a percussion masterclass with our students. His visit was both inspiring and invaluable, giving our young musicians the opportunity to learn directly from one of the most respected percussionists in the profession.
Ralph brings extraordinary experience to his teaching, having worked with an incredible range of music legends including Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin and Elton John. A former member of The Waterboys, he has performed on countless albums, contributed to over 180 film soundtracks, and worked with many leading classical orchestras. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Music.
Ralph holds a special place in Wellington’s musical history, having officially opened STIX, the Wellington College Percussion Studio, in September 2012. We are extremely grateful for his continued relationship with the College, which continues to inspire both students and staff across our musical community.
This masterclass forms part of Wellington College’s thriving Arts programme, which hosts 32 Arts masterclasses each year, welcoming visiting professional artists to inspire, challenge and support our pupils’ creative development. We are incredibly grateful to Ralph for sharing his expertise and passion, and for continuing to support the next generation of musicians.
