Congratulations to Ricky C, Alexander C, and Sayan F on their selection for the British Cadet Rifle Under 18 Team, also known as The Athelings. The team of 18 will shoot at the NRA’s Imperial meeting at Bisley in July, before travelling to Jersey to compete against the Royal Canadian Army Cadets.

This year’s tour holds a special significance for Wellington, as OW Jamie Allum, a full England International, and Master i/c Shooting at the College is Commandant of the British Cadet Rifle Team. Mr Allum has this to say:

‘The commitment and dedication required to reach this national team is immense and Ricky, Sayan, and Alex’s achievements and selection are due reward for the standards they have achieved whilst at College.

Selection for this team represents the highest individual honour possible for cadets in target shooting. The Athelings have been travelling to Canada to compete against the Canadian Cadets and in the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association (DCRA)’s matches since 1910: unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control this year’s tour will be UK based, heading to Jersey.’

Ricky gave us an insight into his journey into The Athelings: ‘I started shooting at Wellington in 3rd form. What I enjoy the most about the shooting is the multiple matches we have against other teams from other schools. Not only do we get to shoot against them, we also get to meet other shooters from other schools such as Epsom and Bradfield.’

We wish them all the best of luck!
