Another set of outstanding public examination results has maintained Wellington College’s reputation as the leading co-educational boarding school in the country.

Isabella Calvert, Will Kirk, Nico Marrin, Felix Peckham and Enzia Schnyder pulled off the remarkable feat of securing straight A*s in their A levels. 36 of this year’s leavers scored at least two A*grades with 42 students in total securing straight A*/A grades.

When combined with last month’s International Baccalaureate Diploma results, 93% of all grades were A*-B, with 71.5% being either A* or A.

These superb results mean that half the departing Upper Sixth move on from Wellington with aggregate results of at least AAA or better.

The 2015 outcome continues the high level of academic performance seen at the school over many years under the outstanding leadership of Sir Anthony Seldon who leaves this month to take up the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.

Sir Anthony said: “These results will make all the difference to these pupils, who are poised to enter an intensely competitive world of work where top grades really matter.

“But what I really hope is that being here has made them into good human beings – kind and compassionate people who will be a credit to their families, friends and employers. For me, their achievements are as much about the interests they have developed here – the arts and drama they have done, the music and sport they have played, the service to others they have given, and the knowledge they have gained in how to live a happier and more contented life. I leave behind a Wellington that offers that kind of preparation for life and I only wish that all schools could offer young people such opportunities.”

Julian Thomas, the new Master, congratulated students and staff on the results and paid tribute to the outgoing Master. “To have transformed Wellington into the top academic co-educational boarding school in the UK is a fitting tribute for such an inspirational leader as Dr Seldon as he leaves the school after a decade,” he said.

The news from across the Wellington family of schools was equally positive: the Wellington Academy in Wiltshire, set up by Sir Anthony in 2009, saw a more than doubling of its A*-A grades from 11 per cent to 26 per cent and a near doubling of its A*-B results to 44 per cent from 27 per cent last year.
