We are thrilled to announce the resounding success of the inaugural Montgomery Contemporary final, held on March 19th in the Old Gym. This latest addition to the Montgomery series stands as a testament to the multitude of pupils excelling in the Popular or Contemporary genres. It is intended to serve as a celebration of these talented individuals.

The evening was graced by Nigel Rowlands, a senior examiner on the Trinity College Rock and Pop panel, who served as our adjudicator for the event. With his wealth of experience and expertise, Mr Rowlands provided invaluable feedback to our participants, contributing to the overall learning experience of the competition.

Fifteen pupils showcased their musical prowess in the final; all years were represented with a diverse range of musical instruments. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the finalists who delivered exceptional performances. Each participant demonstrated a remarkable level of skill and passion, making the final an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.

However, amid the impressive array of talent, one individual shone brightly with an extraordinary performance, receiving applause even louder than her drumming. Congratulations go to Tara R as the deserving winner of the first-ever Montgomery Contemporary award. Tara’s mesmerising solo drum performance showcased her exceptional talent and dedication to percussion. Throughout her time at Wellington, Tara has been a true ambassador for percussion, embodying the spirit of musical excellence.

We extend our gratitude to everyone involved in making this event a resounding success and look forward to many more opportunities to showcase the talents of our contemporary musicians in the future.
