In a thrilling display of determination and skill, the U16 boys’ hockey team has secured their place at the Boys Schools U16 Tier 1 Finals 2024. In a nail-biting quarter-final showdown against Repton, the team showcased resilience and prowess, emerging victorious with a 2-1 score line.

The match, held at Wellington, witnessed an outstanding performance from the boys, who refused to succumb to the intense pressure exerted by their opponents. Midway through the first half, an exceptional counterattack orchestrated by Carter (Bd) culminated in Dylan (H) confidently slotting the ball into the net, securing an early lead for the team.

Despite facing relentless attacks from Repton throughout the first half, the boys held their ground, showcasing impeccable defensive skills and tactical awareness. With a slender 1-0 advantage at halftime, the team braced themselves for a fierce battle in the second half.

The intensity continued after the break, with both teams exchanging attacks in a bid to gain the upper hand. It was Tom (Pn) who provided a crucial breakthrough, embarking on a powerful run into the D and setting up Carter (Bd) for a clinical finish, extending the lead to 2-0.

However, Repton fought back valiantly, managing to pull one goal back with twenty minutes remaining on the clock. Yet, resilient defending coupled with an exceptional performance by goalkeeper Archie (S) ensured that the boys maintained their composure and held on to their lead until the final whistle.

With this hard-fought victory, the U16 boys’ hockey team has earned a well-deserved spot in the upcoming finals at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre. Their first match in the finals is scheduled against St George’s College on April 23rd.
