We’re delighted to share that Wellington College has been Highly Commended in the ‘Brilliant Boarding School’ category at the 2025 Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards, supported by Debrett’s Education.

With hundreds of schools entering across thirteen categories, these awards celebrate institutions that are redefining what modern, holistic education looks like. This commendation is a powerful endorsement of the exceptional boarding experience at Wellington.

Boarding is at the heart of College life, with around 80% of pupils boarding full time. This past year saw the launch of the Elizabeth House our first co-educational Sixth Form House, praised for its balance, warmth and inclusivity. As Year 12 pupil Precious says:

“There’s a real sense of community here. The space itself is warm and welcoming, but it’s also about the people – we all come together and support each other.”

Our new Sixth Form Centre also opened this year, offering an inspiring space for quiet study, collaboration and university preparation reflecting the maturity and independence of our senior students.

Academically, 2024 marked one of our strongest years yet. Over 38% of GCSEs were grade 9, with 17 pupils achieving straight 9s. At A Level and IB, 72% of grades were A*/A or 7/6. All 22 Oxbridge offers were met, and early offers were secured from Ivy League universities including Columbia and Yale.

This academic excellence is underpinned by a future-focused curriculum. Innovations like ‘Courses Within Courses’ and ‘Fragments’ stretch our pupils intellectually, helping them make connections across disciplines and develop curiosity, confidence and creativity.

Wellbeing is interwoven into all aspects of life here. Our nationally recognised programme includes peer-led support, regular workshops and the daily presence of three beloved therapy dogs. In our most recent pupil survey, 81% reported high levels of happiness, and 95% felt supported in understanding and valuing diversity.

Beyond academics, Wellingtonians thrive through a rich co-curricular life. From elite sport and national arts awards to service projects and student leadership, every pupil is encouraged to pursue their passions. This year, highlights included Team GB athletic success, over 700 weekly instrumental lessons, and an expanded Life Beyond Wellington programme.

To be recognised as one of the UK’s most progressive boarding schools is a proud moment. We’re committed to doing things differently and doing them exceptionally well.
