On Wednesday 28 January, we welcomed pupils from Wellington College and local schools, their parents and representatives from leading universities to the 2026 Universities Fair, an event designed to support Lower Sixth pupils as they begin to navigate their post-school options.

The evening opened with a highly informative panel discussion on the UCAS process, featuring senior representatives from Durham, King’s College London, UCL, the University of East Anglia and the University of Oxford. The panel provided clear, practical guidance on course selection, admissions processes and the importance of early research, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the evening.

Following the panel, families had the opportunity to engage directly with admissions staff from over 20 universities, including many Russell Group institutions. The breadth of universities represented ensured that pupils could explore a wide range of academic pathways, ask detailed questions about courses and entry requirements, and gain valuable insight into student life beyond Wellington.

In addition to traditional university routes, the Fair also highlighted alternative pathways, including degree apprenticeships, gap years and overseas study. These conversations reinforced the College’s commitment to helping pupils make informed, individual choices that align with their interests, strengths and long-term aspirations.

The Universities Fair was extremely well attended and generated thoughtful discussion throughout the evening. With expert advice readily available and a supportive, open atmosphere, the event proved to be an invaluable step in helping pupils and parents feel confident about the journey ahead.

Families were also reminded of the OW University Ambassadors scheme, which offers pupils the opportunity to speak directly with recent Old Wellingtonians who have only just navigated the decisions around university, gap years and early career pathways. Through Wellington Connect Global, pupils can access honest, first-hand insight into university life and course choices, providing a valuable perspective alongside the guidance offered by the College.
