On Friday 20 March, Wellington College hosted its annual orchestral concert in the G.W. Annenberg Theatre in support of the Crowthorne Community Minibus, a volunteer-run charity providing essential transport for local residents.

The concert featured the Wellington College Symphony Orchestra, alongside performances from Camerata, the Saxophone Ensemble and the Guitar Ensemble. Conducted by Simon Williamson, Director of Music and the Arts, the programme opened with Beethoven’s Egmont Overture.

The first half showcased a range of ensembles, including a performance of Round Midnight by the Saxophone Ensemble and The Girl from Ipanema by the Guitar Ensemble. Camerata performed Holst’s St Paul’s Suite alongside arrangements of Pride and Prejudice and Muse’s Starlight.

Following the interval, the Symphony Orchestra returned with Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville and a selection from Bizet’s Carmen Suites No. 1 and 2, bringing the evening to a close.

Ticket revenue from the event contributed to both the Crowthorne Community Minibus and the Wellington College Arts Fund. The minibus charity, established in 1988, provides transport for those who may otherwise struggle to access everyday activities, helping to improve quality of life within the local community.

The Wellington College Arts Fund has donated over £150,000 to more than 70 local schools, supporting arts initiatives including music lessons, dance workshops and drama productions.

The concert formed part of a busy term of musical activity at the College, highlighting the breadth of performance opportunities available to students while supporting meaningful local causes.
