We are delighted to announce that Wellington College has been shortlisted for Best Use of Technology in the Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education 2026 and named Highly Commended for Local Partnerships and Community in the School House Awards 2026.

Now in their fifth year, the Talk Education Awards celebrate innovation across the independent schools sector. The shortlist and winners are selected by Talk Education’s editorial panel, comprising experienced researchers, educational experts, former heads, teachers and advisers. The winners will be announced on Thursday 10 September.

Wellington’s entry highlighted the Big Gold Box, an immersive digital portal that enables pupils to interact live with communities around the world as if they are in the same room. During its fifth visit to the College in spring 2026, the portal hosted 30 sessions across subjects including music, politics, geography, languages and economics.

For the first time, a portal also appeared simultaneously at Wellington College International Pune, creating meaningful opportunities for pupils in the UK and India to connect. Pupils also participated in conversations with young people in locations including Mexico City, New York and Nakivale, Africa’s oldest refugee settlement.

The College was also delighted to be named Highly Commended for Local Partnerships and Community in the School House Awards. Organised by School House Magazine, the awards celebrate outstanding achievements across independent education.

The judges gave particular praise to the Wellington College Arts Fund, which has distributed more than £190,000 in grants to over 70 local state primary and secondary schools since 2020. These grants have supported music lessons, dance workshops, drama equipment and art resources, helping schools to broaden access to creative opportunities for their pupils.

We are incredibly proud of everyone involved in these initiatives and grateful to the pupils, staff and partner organisations who make this work possible.
