Congratulations to Wellington’s elite golf squad who rounded off the Easter Term by lifting the prestigious Gerald Micklem Matchplay Trophy at Woking Golf Club. The trophy, established in 1954, and bringing together eight of the UK’s most prestigious Public Schools, commemorates the career of one of England’s most remarkable amateur golfers.

Wellington beat Harrow 5 – 0 in Round 1, and Eton 4.5 – 0.5 in Round 2, before clinching the trophy in a dramatic and nail-biting final against Stowe. With the match standing at 2 – 2, the final pair on the course finished the 18th Hole All Square. On the second sudden death play-off hole, a 215yrd par 3, Joe B sunk a career Birdie to lift the prize.

Well done Joe, and congratulations to all the team, who can now look forward to a busy summer of challenging events with confidence.
