Wellington College’s U16 Girls have once again secured their place among the very best in the country, qualifying for the Tier 1 National Semi Finals and Finals at Lee Valley this March.
The girls were outstanding in the pool stages, winning all four of their matches to progress confidently into the National Quarter Final against Cranleigh.
Taking an early lead, Wellington set the tone before the contest tightened, with both sides creating chances and earning penalty corners. In a tense and fiercely competitive encounter, the team showed immense composure and resilience. A decisive counter-attack goal in the dying moments sealed a superb 2–0 victory.
Goalkeeper Edie delivered a phenomenal performance between the posts, while the entire squad produced a tireless team display full of fight, discipline and determination.
This marks the third consecutive year that Wellington has qualified for the U16 Girls National Final Four — a remarkable achievement and a testament to the strength and consistency of the College’s hockey programme. With only two players having featured in last year’s campaign, this year’s squad offers even more girls the opportunity to experience competing at Lee Valley on the national stage.
Having previously returned from the Finals with both Gold and Bronze medals, excitement is already building to see what this talented group can achieve in March.
