Wellington College is delighted to have won the Safeguarding Initiative Award 2022-23 as announced at the SACPA (Safeguarding and Child Protection Agency) annual conference on 22nd November.   The award recognises an outstanding initiative that has successfully helped to safeguard high numbers of people. Wellington is the only organisation to have won the award two years in a row.

Director of Safeguarding, Delyth Lynch, says: “We are incredibly proud to have won this award. The initiative, which has improved safeguarding for new third-form pupils, was very much a collaboration between the safeguarding team, Tom Wayman (Assistant Head, Pastoral), Rachel Loaring (Head of Third Form) and the admissions department — then run by Ed Venables.  We plan to build on its success for next September’s new cohort and we hope to extend it to Lower Sixth Form pupils in the future”

The award-winning initiative looked at each new pupil as an individual, using conversation-style questioning in order to provide better pastoral and safeguarding support upon their arrival at College.  As a result, staff are much more informed about new pupils as a whole (not only their backgrounds and any risk factors, but also their interests and hobbies) which has facilitated a smoother transition into school life.
