It’s an impressive achievement for anyone to represent Great Britain, but even more impressive when the first time you participated in the sport was a little over a year ago. This can be said of two Wellington College pupils who will be representing GB later this year. Alistair L (L6), who will race in the U20 category of the World Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships Hamburg in July, after finishing 2nd in his age group at the Box End qualifying race last September, and Aidan D (L6) who has secured a spot in the U20 category of the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, which take place in September. Aidan’s impressive time during the Eton Sprint Triathlon last year qualified him for the GB spot.

Both pupils took part in their debut triathlons during fifth form and haven’t looked back since. Alistair, who had previously only taken part in team sports, enjoys the individual nature of triathlon saying:

“I’ve always liked sport but becoming a triathlete has given me a focus. It has have helped me to become more self-motivated.”

Aidan, who is also a successful cross-country runner said:

“Triathlons have helped me to become a more rounded athlete, and it’s great fun being able to swim and cycle. We are all so grateful for the support and encouragement Mrs Granville-Chapman has given us.”

It’s great to see the ever-increasing participation and success in Triathlon at Wellington.

Alistair and Aidan will join Caitlin who qualified for the World Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships Hamburg last year.

Good luck to you all.
